Skin Protectant

Skin protectants used in long-term wound care prevent maceration caused by dressings and gels that speed wound healing.

Many wound dressings are designed to provide a moist environment inside the wound bed because this promotes faster and more complete wound healing. However, prolonged exposure to moisture causes healthy skin to soften and break down. When moist wound dressings are applied, use a skin protectant on the healthy skin around the wound.
